Panda Express’ brand ethos of family, fresh food, and cultural history inspired the project’s mural designs. Designs were further customized for each locale, including domestic and international stores such as Seoul and El Salvador. Material and execution style were part of the concept process, with consideration for the environment in which these murals would live (fast-casual restaurant) and matching the brand look and feel.
Chinese proverb: “An invisible red thread connects those destined to meet, regardless of time, place or circumstance. The thread may stretch or tangle, but never break.”
Seoul’s IFC Mall location’s dimensional mural features Seoul landmarks as well as the Panda Express Chinese-American story.
Buda, Texas location features the Red String Art mural visual concept derived from a Chinese proverb: “An invisible red thread connects those destined to meet, regardless of time, place or circumstance. The thread may stretch or tangle, but never break”. Each store’s mural varies slightly to feature local landmarks.
